Respecting Yourself
One of life's earliest instructions that children work on in the family is "respect." If we could learn this very basic and simple code for life, our planet would be a much happier, safer and mannerly place on which to live. Hidden Choices takes respect of life very seriously as one of its core value missions which states "we value life at all levels, from conception in the womb to death." Every child has the inalienable right to be born and live a dignified life to the fullest. Our US Constitution protects this human right or should. Respect of self and others is about the most straightforward and easy of the golden rules to follow; if we would just practice it. But respect starts with individuals as the change agent. So now, you might be asking. How do I treat others with respect and change my world? Glad you asked. Rivers suggests 8 ideas to incorporate into your daily routine.
- Listen respectfully to others when they speak.
- Don't make fun of people, mock or tease them.
- Value other people's opinions even if they are different from yours.
- Be considerate of others. We all have likes and dislikes. It makes the world unique and fun to live in.
- Don't talk about people behind their backs. The term, "back-stabber" comes from this rude behavior.
- Be sensitive to other people's feelings. Hurt feelings can cause a lifetime of pain and grief.
- Don't bully someone into doing something he or she does not want to do.
- Be the leader everyone wants to follow! Leadership takes courage and fortitude and responsibility. You are the Change Maker we are all looking for to lead us!
